The Responce for The Movie Into The Wild Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
The Responce for The Movie Into The Wild - Essay Example Chris had the misunderstanding that nature could be tamed. Only after making his journey and reaching his sad ending could he find that nature is too powerful to be tamed. Nature carries a very important and particular allure to Chris. Chris perceives the wilderness or nature as a state that is purer and free of all bad influences of the modern society. Chris hopes to explore the meaning of his existence and wants to live in such a way that no rules but those made by himself govern his life; he wants to be free. For Chris, being free does not necessarily mean not being chained. Being free to him means to live on oneââ¬â¢s own terms and according to the rules made by oneself rather than others. Living this way, Chris actually finds out at least some keys to living like he desires and at least some answers to the questions he originally had. As Chris explains the reason why he does not pursue a professional career after graduating from the college to Franz in these words, ââ¬Å"Mr. Franz I think careers are a 20th century invention and I don't want oneâ⬠(Penn). Likewise, for example, at one point in the film, Chris says, ââ¬Å"I read somewhere... how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong... but to feel strongâ⬠(Penn). He reaches these conclusions only after making this journey. However, the fact that the daily life in the wilderness of the nature is far less romantic than what Chris had originally imagined. So much of Chrisââ¬â¢s times is consumed just in looking for food to be alive basically that there is hardly any time left for him to adore the nature as is evident from the scene in the film when Chris develops a list of food in the journal that he daily locates and consumes. Nature can be adored, but it cannot be lived alone with. Chris in the... "The Response to the Movie into the Wild" essay gives a full and deep analysis of film directed by Sean Penn and explain by what has guided the main character while making decisions. Many people sometimes feel a strong urge to do what they have been cultivating a longing desire in their heart for no matter what it takes. Chris is shown as one character that possesses unusual curiosity for the nature as well as its adventures. He wants to know what he does not know thus far and wants to experience what he has never experienced in the past. For this reason, he does what he has never done in the past. His curiosity reflects in numerous quotes of Chris in the film. ââ¬Å"The core of mans' spirit comes from new experiencesâ⬠(Penn). From the activities Chris involves in after leaving his home, it can be assessed that he is by nature a very loving and caring man. Chrisââ¬â¢s high moral values reflect in his consideration of truth as the most superior to all other blessings in the world, as he says, ââ¬Å"I'm going to paraphrase Thoreau here... rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness... give me truthâ⬠(Penn). Indeed, it is the very love for nature that compels him to take this big a step to leave everything he owns behind and instead explore the nature and the adventures hidden into it. However, none of what he does is right because he breaks connection with his fundamental responsibilities. From the type of personality Chris has as shown in the film, it is obvious that he has brains, but thinks on the wrong lines.

Plant Form and Function, Plant Reproduction and Development Essay
Plant Form and Function, Plant Reproduction and Development - Essay Example The information contained in the article somehow applies to those in charge of domestic health, environment, and even interior decorating. The fact that certain species of plants have the ability to filter air pollutants is a promising new way of decorating the house and doing it the holistic way. Moreover, the idea of plants filtering the air of pollutants is also a clear message to horticulturists and environmental specialists that they should increase the production of such plants and that they should at least encourage people to do the same and to value these species. If these plants become so numerous, they might be able to bring about a positive effect in the environment. The anonymously written article appears in the Sciences News section of Science Daily and was about how a new species of monkey flower developed the natural way. According to the article, the new species of monkey flower, which is scientifically known as Mimulus peregrines, was produced from a series of matings among foreign plant species in Britain that lasted 150 years. Basically, these different species of plants actually cannot reproduce upon mating, but during the 150 years of evolution, infertility was overcome. The principle involved was polyploidization, which is the ââ¬Å"duplication of the entire hybrid DNA [which] can balance the amount of DNA and restore fertilityâ⬠. The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911 :: United States History Work Safety Essays
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911 275 girls started to collect their belongings as they were leaving work at 4:45 PM on Saturday. Within twenty minutes some of girls' charred bodies were lined up along the East Side of Greene Street. Those girls who flung themselves from the ninth floor were merely covered with tarpaulins where they hit the concrete. The Bellevue morgue was overrun with bodies and a makeshift morgue was set up on the adjoining pier on the East River. Hundred's of parents and family members came to identify their lost loved ones. 146 employees of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company were dead the night of March 25, 1911. The horror of their deaths led to numerous changes in occupational safety standards that currently ensure the safety of workers today. At the time of the fire the only safety measures available for the workers were 27 buckets of water and a fire escape that would collapse when people tried to use them. Most of the doors were locked and those that were not locked only opened inwards and were effectively held shut by the onrush of workers escaping the fire. As the clothing materials feed the fire workers tried to escape anyway they could. 25 passengers flung themselves down the elevator shaft trying to escape the fire. Their bodies rained blood and coins down onto the employees who made it into the elevator cars. Engine Company 72 and 33 were the first on the scene. To add to the already bleak situation the water streams from their hoses could only reach the 7th floor. Their ladders could only reach between the 6th and 7th floor. 19 bodies were found charred against the locked doors. 25 bodies were found huddled in a cloakroom. These deaths, although horrible, was not what changed the feelings toward government regula tion. Upon finding that they could not use the doors to escape and the fire burning at their clothes and hair, the girls of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company, aged mostly between 13 and 23 years of age, jumped 9 stories to their death. One after another the girls jumped to their deaths on the concrete over one hundred of feet below. Sometimes the girls jumped three and four at a time. On lookers watched in horror as body after body fell to the earth. "Thud -- dead; thud -- dead; thud -- dead; thud -- dead.

Coca Cola Goes Small in India The coca-cola company is the number one seller of soft drinks in the world. Every day an average of more than 1 Billion servings of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite, Fanta and other products of Coca-Cola are enjoyed around the world. The company has the worldââ¬â¢s largest production and distribution system for soft drinks and sells more than twice as many soft drinks as its nearest competitor. Coca-Cola products are sold in more than 200 countries around the globe. For several reasons, the company believes it will continue to grow internationally. One reasons is that disposable income is rising Another reason is that outside the United States and Europe, the world is getting younger. In addition, reaching world markets is becoming easier as political barriers fall and transportation difficulties are overcome. Still another reason is that the sharing of ideas, cultures and news around the world creates market opportunities.Part of the company mission for C oca-Cola to maintain the worldââ¬â¢s powerful trademark and effectively utilize the worldââ¬â¢s most effective and pervasive distribution system. In June 1999 Coca-Cola India introduced a 200-milliliter Coke bottle in Delhi, India, in a campaign to market Coke to its poorest customers. This strategy was successful for Coca-Cola in other countries such as Russia. The bottle sells for Rs. 12, making affordable to almost everyone. In 2001, Coca-Cola enjoyed 25% growth in India including an 18% increase in unit case sales of Coca-Cola.Because of the variability of bottling machinery, it is likely that every 200 milliliter bottle of Coca-Cola does not contain exactly 200 milliliters of fluid. Some bottles may contain more fluid and other less. Because 200 milliliters fills are somewhat unusual, a production engineer wants to test some of the bottles from the first production runs to determine how closely they are to the 200 milliliter specification. Suppose the following data are t he field measurements from a random sample of 50 bottles.Consider the measures of central tendency, variation, skewness. It generally culminates in a cash budget, a budgeted income statement, and a budgeted balance sheet. In short, this budget represents a comprehensive expression of management's plans for future and how these plans are to be accomplished. It usually consists of a number of separate but interdependent budgets. One budget may be necessary before the other can be initiated.More one budget estimate effects other budget estimates because the figures of one budget is usually used in the preparation of other budget. This is the reason why these budgets are called interdependent budgets. * Gudeline of Budget Preparation Operating Budgets An operating budget is a statement that presents the financial plan for each responsibility centre during the budget period and reflects operating activities involving revenues and expenses. The most common types of operating budgets areà expense,à revenue, andà profit budgets Expense BudgetAn expense budget is an operating budget that documents expected expenses during the budget period. Three different kinds of expenses normally are evaluated in the expense budget -fixed,à variableà andà discretionaryà (Discretionary expenses ââ¬â costs that depend on managerial judgment because they cannot be determined with certainty, for example:à legal fees, accounting feesà andà R&D expenses). Revenue Budget A revenue budget identifies the revenues required by the organization. It is a budget thatà projects future sales. Profit Budget A profit budget combines both expense and revenue budgets into one statement to showà gross and net profits. Feature article aboutà Production ManagementProfit budgets are used to makeà final resource allocation, check on the adequacy of expense budgets relative to anticipated revenues, control activities across units, and assign responsibility to managers for their shares of the organization's financial performance. Financial Budgets Financial Budgets outline how an organization is going to acquire its cash and how it intends to use the cash. Three important financial budgets are theà cash budget,à capital expenditure budgetà and the balance sheet budget. Cash budget Cash budgets are forecasts of how much cash the organization has on hand and how much it will need to meetà expenses. The cash budget helps managers determine whether they will have adequate amounts of cash to handle required disbursements when necessary, when there will be excess cash that needs to be invested, and when cash flows deviate from budgeted amounts. Capital Expenditure Budget Capital Expenditure Budgets ,à Investment in property,à buildings andà major equipmentà are called capital expenditure. Such capital expenditure budgets allow management to forecast capital requirements, to on top of important capital projects, and to ensure the adequate cash is available to meet these expenditures as they come due.The balance sheet budget The balance sheet budget plans the amount ofà assetsà and liabilitiesà for the end of the time period under considerations. A balance sheet budget is also known as aà pro forma (projected) balance sheet. Analysis of the balance sheet budget may suggest problems or opportunities that will require managers to alter some of the other budgets * Budgeting Process * Behavioral Aspects Actually, an effective budget preparation process blends the two approaches. Budgetees prepare the first draft of the budget for their area of responsibility, they do so within guideliness established at higher level.Senior managers review and critique these proposed budgets. Research has shown that budget preparation where the process in which the budgetee is both involved and has influence over the setting of budget amounts and it has positive effects on managerial motivation for two reasons : 1. There is likely to be greater acceptance of budget goals if they are perceived as being under managersââ¬â¢ personal control, rather than being imposed externally. This will leads to higher personal commitment to achieve the goals. 2. Participative budgeting result in effective information exchanges. The approved budget amounts benefit from the expertise and personal knowledge of the budgetees, where the budgetees have a clearer understanding of their jobs through interactions with superior during the review and approval phase. The budget department has a particularly difficult in behavioral problem. It must analyze the budgets in details, and it must be certain that the budget are prepared properlu and that the information is accurate. To accomplis h the tasks, the budget department sometimes must act in ways that line managers perceive as threatening or hostile. To perform, their function effectively, the members of the budget department must have a reputation for impartiality and fairness. If they do not have this reputation, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, for them to perform the task necessary to maintaining the effective budgetary control system. Citation Anthony, R. P6, M4, D2 - Review Physiological Data Collected,...
In this assignment I will be reviewing the different effects of exercise on the body system including the acute and long term using the pre-exercise, exercise and post-exercise physiological data which I collected based on interval and continuous training method. I will also be including the advantages and disadvantages of these, also the participantsââ¬â¢ strengths and areas where they can improve on. - Effect of exercise on the musculoskeletal system As Andre began to exercise, this had an effect on heââ¬â¢s bones; this is because he was putting more stress on them than usual which resulted in them getting thicker. Also exercise had an effect on heââ¬â¢s joints because the joints now became more flexible and he wasnââ¬â¢t getting anymore painsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Also heââ¬â¢s oxygen diffusion rate has increased due to the more oxygen which is absorbed by the alveoli and then circulated around the body. Before the training programme Andreââ¬â¢s fitness level was not poorly but it wasnââ¬â¢t at heââ¬â¢s best though and in order for him to improve on heââ¬â¢s cardiovascular endurance, I created a six week training programme in which involved different exercises and training methods that he should use to improve on this skill. Also before he started this training programme, I tested Andre on some tests which are: Multistage fitness test Stage 5.9 This result shows that Andre is not at heââ¬â¢s best fitness level because after this test was conducted he was struggling to breathe and he kept commenting that heââ¬â¢s legs was in pain. 35 metre sprint 5.25 Seconds This result shows that Andreââ¬â¢s is just below average, and therefore he is unfit as he did not even reach the average stage of this test for someone at heââ¬â¢s age. Illinois agility test 17.3 Seconds This result shows that he bad with heââ¬â¢s coordination as he only reached the average result because this was heââ¬â¢s best result after trying this test 3 times. After the training programme Andre could clearly see that heââ¬â¢s fitness level has improved because he could now run for a longer time as he

Nobody, No One, and None How to Choose the Right Word
The indefinite pronouns nobody and no one are often mixed up with the pronoun none. The first two words are both singular pronouns and synonymous, but none can be either singular or plural. How to Use Nobody Nobody is an indefinite pronoun, meaning it does not refer to any particular person. It means the same thing as no person or not anyone. As an indefinite pronoun that refers to an absence, nobody also has no defined amount. Grammatically, though, it is treated as a singular noun: Nobody was there to open the door. How to Use No One No one is also an indefinite pronoun, and it means the same thing as nobody. It is usually considered more formal than nobody, which is why it is more likely to appear in writing. Noone is a common misspelling of no one, which is two words. No-oneââ¬âwith a hyphenââ¬âis a less common spelling, typically found in British English. How to Use None The pronoun none means not one, not any, or no persons or things. As an adverb, none means not at all or to no extent. Theres a common misconception that none can only be singular, but this has never been true. When none is the subject of a clause and refers to members of a group, it can be used with either a singular verb (None is) or a plural verb (None are). None must be followed by a singular verb only when it means not part of a whole, as in None of it is mine. Examples Nobody and no one are basically interchangeable; the main difference between the two is the degree of formality: No one is ever too old to learn something new.Nobody wants to sign up for cleanup duties. None means the same thing as not one or not any, which is why its often found in reference to groups: None of the other apples are as good as the Honeycrisp.None of the guests has any idea what to bring to the party. In the first example, none takes the plural verb are because it is used in the sense of not any (Not any of the other apples are as good as the Honeycrisp). In the second example, none takes the singular verb has because it is used in the sense of not one (Not one of the guests has any idea what to bring to the party). If youre using the word none and you arent sure if it should take a singular or a plural verb, try replacing none with not any or not one to determine in which sense its being used. Wilson Follett, the author of the style guide Modern American Usage, wrote that choosing the right verb for none is always a matter of context: The fact is that in some contexts none means not a single one, making singularity emphatic, whereas in other contexts it means no two, no few, no several, no fraction of many. In None of us is entitled to cast the first stone the singular meaning is hardly mistakable; in None of the commentators agree on the meaning of this passage the plural meaning is equally clear. None, then, is freely either singular or plural according to the sense suggested by its context. Often the number we give it makes no difference. How to Remember the Differences Nobody and no one always refer to people. If youre struggling to decide which one you should write, you can relax. Either one will do, so stick with whichever sounds best. None can refer to people or inanimate objects. This word always points to another noun or nouns in a sentence, which is why you often see the construction none of the [noun], as in: None of the guests enjoyed the meal. None is the appropriate word in this case because it points to the noun guests. Without the noun guests, the sentence would require an indefinite pronoun such as nobody or no one instead: No one enjoyed the meal. Sources Follett, Wilson.à Modern American Usage: A Guide. Conveniently Married Essay examples - 2266 Words
Conveniently Married Life in the Victorian Era was centered on marriage. Among the nobility, marriage was typically sought to increase status or wealth with a partner of their same social class. This also holds true for the middle class, along with using marriage to gain political or business alliances. The working class of the Victorian Era had more practical reasons for marrying. The marriages of the working class centered more on finding a companion that would be able to contribute to the household. Many men sought a strong woman whose talents would complement their particular trade, and increase the amount of money that was made. Marriage rarely occurred for love, although the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert was anâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦To marry would mean that Victoria could rid herself of her mother as palace chaperone; to marry might also mean the possibility of disagreement with a husband. Marrying Albert accomplished the political reasons, doing away with a chaperone, Victor iaââ¬â¢s stance that she would only marry for love, and also allayed the fears that Victoria had of marriage. As stated before, the working class men married to increase the wages of the household by marrying a woman who would be a compliment to their trade. In contrast, weavers relied on their wivesââ¬â¢ and daughtersââ¬â¢ labor in the task of making cloth. With the advent of the industrial revolution and with factories becoming a main source of work, wives became more crucial to contributing to the household. To supplement their husbandsââ¬â¢ incomes, since artisansââ¬â¢ wives ran a small shop of their own, such as a chandlerââ¬â¢s or a corner grocery. Weavers were different from most artisans in that they actively sought the help of their wives and children. Unlike traditional artisans, however, male weavers owed much of their sense of control and their prosperity to the family-based economy, for they could supervise, and profit from, the labor of their wives and children. The textile industry moving to factories also caused many problems with the weavers.
